COVID-19 Information for HuronTel Subscribers

HuronTel offices in Ripley, Goderich, Kincardine and Wingham are now prepared to accept customers in a limited capacity.  We ask that all customers please call ahead to arrange your visit, as many common transactions do not require a visit to one of our stores.  Our staff will co-ordinate a time for your office visit.

Before coming in to any of our offices, please read and follow the posted signage before entering.  If you are feeling unwell, experiencing potential symptoms of COVID-19 (fever, dry cough, tiredness, difficulty breathing), have travelled outside Ontario in the last 14 days, have been in contact with anyone that has or was exposed to Coronavirus, please defer your visit and call our office for alternative options.  Please respect and follow physical distancing guidelines with other customers and our staff. Only one customer is permitted in the office at a time.  Please use hand sanitizer when you arrive, and masks are preferred but not required.  Our washrooms, chairs and waiting areas are not available at this time.

Online and pre-authorized bill payments continue to be the preferred methods.  Drop boxes are available in Wingham and Goderich during business hours, and at our Ripley Office 24 hours per day.

As we continue to navigate the uncertainty of COVID-19, HuronTel has been working with all of our partners to make the best of this situation for our customers.

We are excited to announce that in addition to the 50+ channels currently on free preview, anyone adding Crave + Movies + HBO to their TV service before May 31st will receive their first “Two Months On Us” (please call for terms and conditions). A Crave subscription includes Showtime, classic HBO, Originals like Letterkenny and hit series like the Handmaid’s Tale, Star Trek: Discovery and more. The MOVIES + HBO subscription includes current HBO releases (same time as U.S.), Latest Hollywood movies, Family and kids movies, and 6 Live channels. On demand content is available through your HuronTel set top box and on the Crave App.

If you need to add Internet or increase your speed because you are working from home or your children are doing Teacher-led Learning at home, please call us to see what options are available.

Connecting, disconnecting and supporting short term/seasonal services increases the number of potential service calls for our installation and repair employees. To minimize the risk of COVID-19 to our employees, HuronTel has temporarily paused all installations and activations of our “High Speed Monthly” short term internet service. This policy will remain in effect until at least June 1st when it will be re-evaluated based on the state of COVID-19.

To customers facing financial hardship from lost income because of COVID-19, please call our customer service team and let us know. We will work with you to avoid any unforeseen account issues, and are happy to review your services to look for potential savings.

Thank you to all our customers for allowing us to provide and maintain your communications needs through non-contact methods while our offices remain closed. Equipment exchanges and upgrades are being arranged by home drop off or office appointment. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we spend more time on the phone troubleshooting an issue to prevent a site visit. Understandably, taking additional safety precautions can result in a back log and increase the time required to complete work. Non-essential work will be delayed until the public emergency measures have been rescinded and scheduled at a later date.

UPDATE: Temporary Closure to Walk-in Customers

At HuronTel, we are dedicated to protecting our employees, customers and families from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. During these times of uncertainty, we understand that students are home from school, people are working from home, and others may be in self-isolation or impacted by lay-offs. HuronTel’s customer service representatives are ready to work with clients to accommodate service change requests. We ask that all customers contact HuronTel by telephone rather than visiting our offices. After considering the State of Emergency in Ontario and the recommendations of public health officials, we have made the decision to temporarily close our retail office locations. During this closure, our contact centres remain open and our customer service and support agents are ready to take your calls and emails. For our customers who normally pay their bills in person, please contact our billing department to make alternative arrangements for this month. HuronTel is bringing our television subscribers additional programming that our providers have offered under free preview campaigns during the March break and school closures. This includes additional news channels as well as children’s programming. Please watch our web site and Facebook page for the latest updates. If you are stranded away from your home, don’t forget you can access many of your HuronTel TV Services through the Watch TV Everywhere app on your tablet or smart phone.

We also understand that customers may require faster Internet while students are out of school and people are working from home. Bandwidth upgrades are available by contacting our office. No matter what speed you choose, HuronTel does not cap or limit monthly data transfers on home and business internet services, so our customers have peace of mind as they experience increased usage demands. HuronTel employees live and work in our communities we serve.
